The Mac Down will start at 11 a.m. this Saturday, the 19th. Vegan mac n cheese, you may be asking yourself. What’s the point? Well, there are several. First of all, why the heck not? It’s a fun challenge for the nine chefs to kick away the crutch of delicious cheese to make their mac and instead look to the world of veggies to create their creamy concoctions. The event is hosted by the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition, which brings attention to the problems with industrial farming and hopes that people living in Salt Lake City homes will decide to go for a more plant-based diet. Salt Lake City is known for it quirky and tolerant vibe, and this is a great event for local to get together and make new friends. Not to mention that a number of local businesses will be at the event, so attendees will get to meet them, too.

Tickets are available online and are just $9. They include a two-ounce sample of the vegan mac from each of the nine contestants. You’ll also get one entry for the big prize drawing and plenty of fun swag. Procrastinators will be able to get tickets the day of, but they’ll be $12, starting at 11:45 a.m.
